Our Growing Lego Modular Town - Seven and Counting

It has been an eventful November thus far. Where shall we start? Well, last week, Mr. and Mrs. Little Yellow Brick were at Legoland Malaysia! The trip is worth a post by itself, and is not the focus of today's post.

Per Little Yellow Brick tradition, a new addition to the Modular Building series is followed by a post on the ever-expanding town. So without any further ado, we present to you (rather belatedly) our Growing Lego Modular Town - Seven and Counting!

Put another way, this post could also be renamed the Complete Lego Modular Town 2012, given that the latest building to this series is the 10224 Town Hall!

We have truly come a long way since our first Modular Building purchase. Today we have 7 completed Modular Buildings, with our 8th, the 10232 Palace Cinema, to be added to the collection once we get down to building it! We have presented the buildings in one entire stretch, which is the last opportunity for us to do so as the 10232 Palace Cinema is the 3rd corner building after the 10182 Cafe Corner and 10211 Grand Emporium. Not sure if Lego is going to create a 4th, that would be pretty strange to have the buildings form a rectangle given that some of the buildings have a functioning back exit, such as the 10197 Fire Brigade, which allows the fire truck to enter and exit.

Enough talk for now. We shall leave you to enjoy this long-overdue post (more pictures in the extended post). As always, thank you for supporting Little Yellow Brick!

Our Growing Lego Modular Town - Five and Counting

With the completion of our 10190 Market Street set, the next post had to be on our expanding Lego Modular Town, no? :) Well, without much further ado, we present to you our Growing Lego Modular Town - Five and Counting!

Our Modular Town, anchored at a right angle by our Grand Emporium

This post features our latest addition to our Modular Building family - the 1248-piece Market Street, which we completed last week. Our Modular Town is now stocked with shops selling foodstuffs, groceries, pets and toys, while the fire station provides timely firefighting support should the need arise.

The Modular Town is a beautiful kaleidoscope of colours, a generous splash of red, green, yellow and blue. Next up in our series - the 10182 Cafe Corner (the first Modular Building produced by Lego), which we have already bought. More on that post after we complete the set; for now, do click on "Read more" to see more shots of our growing town!

Our Growing Lego Modular Town - Four and Counting

Now that we have completed our Pet Shop, we thought we would post pictures of our latest addition to our Lego Modular Buildings series with its predecessors. In a break from previous practice, we are publishing the pictures in a separate post for two reasons: we had a lot of pictures and comments on the Pet Shop to share, and we felt that our collection was large enough to command an entry by itself.

Let's do a recap of our Lego Modular projects:

Our fourth Lego project - 10211 Grand Emporium

  • Model: 10211 Grand Emporium

  • Released in 2010
  • Retail price: $149.99 USD
Completed. :)
Well, we put our money where our mouths are, don't we? Presenting our first two Modular Buildings, the Green Grocer and Grand Emporium, side by side! Looking more like a town, doesn't it?

Back view of the Grand Emporium and Green Grocer!

Side view of the tiles - note how they match seamlessly from one building to the next!

What are buildings without minifigs? Let's line them up for a group shot! (Note: mannequins not included!)

We embarked on our second Modular Building project, the Grand Emporium, not long after we had completed the Green Grocer. Like the Grocer, building the Grand Emporium was very time-consuming but ultimately satisfying. The first floor was a seriously painstaking exercise as we had to meticulously tile most of the ground. Afterwards, the second and third floors were a relative breeze as we got the hang of building the escalators and the walls. We won’t bore you with the details, but like most large Lego structures, especially the “10” series, seeing the set slowly become the finished product, brick by brick, is a truly unforgettable experience.
The Grand Emporium comes with five townsfolk and two mannequins. Like the Green Grocer, it is probably nice to look at, but we felt that we would not be doing it justice if we left it on its own. We did not follow the sequence in building the Grand Emporium ahead of the Fire Brigade as we initially thought that the Emporium looked a lot nicer. Well, enjoy the view for now while we work on our next project – the Fire Brigade!
