Our Growing Lego Modular Town - Seven and Counting

It has been an eventful November thus far. Where shall we start? Well, last week, Mr. and Mrs. Little Yellow Brick were at Legoland Malaysia! The trip is worth a post by itself, and is not the focus of today's post.

Per Little Yellow Brick tradition, a new addition to the Modular Building series is followed by a post on the ever-expanding town. So without any further ado, we present to you (rather belatedly) our Growing Lego Modular Town - Seven and Counting!

Put another way, this post could also be renamed the Complete Lego Modular Town 2012, given that the latest building to this series is the 10224 Town Hall!

We have truly come a long way since our first Modular Building purchase. Today we have 7 completed Modular Buildings, with our 8th, the 10232 Palace Cinema, to be added to the collection once we get down to building it! We have presented the buildings in one entire stretch, which is the last opportunity for us to do so as the 10232 Palace Cinema is the 3rd corner building after the 10182 Cafe Corner and 10211 Grand Emporium. Not sure if Lego is going to create a 4th, that would be pretty strange to have the buildings form a rectangle given that some of the buildings have a functioning back exit, such as the 10197 Fire Brigade, which allows the fire truck to enter and exit.

Enough talk for now. We shall leave you to enjoy this long-overdue post (more pictures in the extended post). As always, thank you for supporting Little Yellow Brick!

Our Growing Lego Modular Town - Five and Counting

With the completion of our 10190 Market Street set, the next post had to be on our expanding Lego Modular Town, no? :) Well, without much further ado, we present to you our Growing Lego Modular Town - Five and Counting!

Our Modular Town, anchored at a right angle by our Grand Emporium

This post features our latest addition to our Modular Building family - the 1248-piece Market Street, which we completed last week. Our Modular Town is now stocked with shops selling foodstuffs, groceries, pets and toys, while the fire station provides timely firefighting support should the need arise.

The Modular Town is a beautiful kaleidoscope of colours, a generous splash of red, green, yellow and blue. Next up in our series - the 10182 Cafe Corner (the first Modular Building produced by Lego), which we have already bought. More on that post after we complete the set; for now, do click on "Read more" to see more shots of our growing town!

Our Growing Lego Modular Town - Four and Counting

Now that we have completed our Pet Shop, we thought we would post pictures of our latest addition to our Lego Modular Buildings series with its predecessors. In a break from previous practice, we are publishing the pictures in a separate post for two reasons: we had a lot of pictures and comments on the Pet Shop to share, and we felt that our collection was large enough to command an entry by itself.

Let's do a recap of our Lego Modular projects:

We built the Fire Brigade after completing the Green Grocer and Grand Emporium, which were released by Lego before and after the Brigade respectively. Initially, we were reluctant to build it as it did not look very nice compared to other Modular Buildings. After we started building it up, it slowly grew on us; today, it sits pretty next to the other two buildings as we aim to complete the rest of the town.

Building the Fire Brigade was a different experience compared to the Green Grocer and Grand Emporium. For a start, the fire station only has two levels while the others have three; another contrast would be the relative lack of colours - the Fire Brigade is predominantly red and grey. We also had to construct the fire engine from scratch; it sure took a lot of time!

This Lego set comes with four minifigs and a dog. Playwise the building does not offer much by itself and we would argue that it probably would have less standalone value compared to shops such as the Green Grocer and Grand Emporium; after all, why would one need a fire station if there aren't any other buildings around? Hence, we think it is necessary to join the fire station to a row of other buildings. Should we follow Lego's sequence of Green Grocer-Fire Brigade-Grand Emporium? Maybe we should explore this in more detail in future posts!
